A Culinary Delight at Bec&Geri's Plant-Based Ecolounge: My Personal Experience

Nestled in the heart of Davao City, specifically on Màya Street beside Amawslai Building and conveniently near the Davao Ecoland Terminal, lies a hidden gem that marries the concepts of sustainable living and delectable dining. Bec&Geri's Ecolounge is more than just a restaurant; it is an experience that leaves a lasting impression. I recently had the pleasure of dining at this extraordinary establishment and I'm thrilled to share my personal journey through its unique offerings.

From the moment I walked through the door, I was enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor of Bec&Geri's Ecolounge is a testament to their commitment to sustainability. Reclaimed wood, potted plants, and upcycled furniture create a cozy and eco-friendly ambiance. The restaurant's ethos of reducing their carbon footprint is evident in every detail.

One of the standout features of Bec&Geri's Ecolounge is their commitment to providing plant-based food that is also Halal certified. As someone who appreciates both ethical eating and dietary inclusivity, I found this combination to be particularly appealing. The menu is a celebration of plant-based cuisine, offering a variety of dishes that cater to both the health-conscious and those seeking bold, innovative flavors.

Plant-based pastries

I started my meal with a refreshing glass of their signature cold-pressed juice, which was a vibrant blend of fresh fruits and vegetables. It was the perfect palate cleanser and a great way to kick off the dining experience.

For my appetizer, we were serve a Plant-based Sisig. Made with vegnet, tofu, mushroom and bean curd it mimicked the texture and taste of traditional sisig remarkably well, it resembles the regular pork sisig we'd love.

If you’re craving the indulgent crunch of crispy pork belly without the guilt, look no further than the plant-based kawali at Bec&Geri's! This vegan delight is a game-changer, offering all the savory goodness of the classic dish but with a healthy twist.

From the first bite, you’re met with a perfect crunch that rivals, or even surpasses, the traditional pork version. The texture is spot-on, and the flavors are rich and satisfying, with a delightful hint of smokiness. The seasoning is masterfully balanced, making each bite an explosion of taste.

What sets this dish apart is its commitment to being completely vegan without compromising on the essence of what makes crispy pork belly so beloved. Paired with Bec&Geri's signature dipping sauce and a side of fresh greens, it’s a guilt-free indulgence that will leave you completely satisfied.

Bec&Geri's plant-based kawali is a must-try for both vegans and meat-lovers alike. It’s a culinary triumph that proves plant-based eating can be just as delicious – if not better!

Bec & Geri's Ecolounge offers a delightful twist on a traditional Filipino favorite with their Plant-based Kare-Kare. This vegan rendition features tender vegetables and tofu, all enveloped in a rich, creamy peanut sauce that perfectly captures the dish's signature flavor. The accompanying bagoong, made from mushrooms, adds a delightful umami punch. The portion size is generous, and the presentation is inviting. It's a must-try for both vegans and meat-eaters alike.

The main course was where Bec & Geri's truly shined. We were served Plant-based Shrimp Gambas, a hearty and flavorful dish that was both satisfying and nourishing. The richness of the sauce, combined with the perfectly cooked plant-based shrimp, made for a memorable meal.

I was also amazed by the taste and texture—it really tastes like shrimp, and the appearance is remarkably similar too! It's evident that the chefs at Bec & Geri's have mastered the art of plant-based cooking, creating dishes that are not only delicious but also creatively crafted. This dish is perfect for those who are allergic to shrimp, allowing everyone to enjoy the classic flavors without any worries.

Beyond the Table

Bec&Geri's Ecolounge extends its offerings beyond the dining experience. They sell a variety of frozen plant-based foods, allowing customers to bring the flavors of the Ecolounge into their own kitchens. From plant-based BBQ, Cordon Bleu to Southern Chicken, these frozen delights make it easy to enjoy healthy, sustainable meals at home.

For coffee lovers, Bec&Geri's offers an impressive selection of Plant-based sourced coffee. Their baristas are skilled in the art of coffee making, ensuring that every cup is brewed to perfection. Whether you prefer a classic espresso or a frothy latte, their coffee menu is sure to satisfy.

Bottled Delights: Bagoong and Aligue

One of the most unique aspects of Bec&Geri's is their range of bottled goods. They offer plant-based versions of traditional Filipino condiments such as bagoong (made of mushroom) and aligue. These bottled products are a testament to the restaurant's innovative approach to plant-based cuisine. The bagoong and aligue add a burst of umami to any dish, and they make for wonderful gifts for food enthusiasts.

My experience here was nothing short of extraordinary. The combination of plant-based and Halal certified food, the eco-friendly atmosphere, and the range of unique products make it a standout destination for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious and sustainable meal.

Located conveniently on Màya Street beside Amawslai Building and near the Davao Ecoland Terminal, Bec&Geri's Ecolounge is not just a place to eat; it's a place to celebrate the possibilities of plant-based cuisine and sustainable living. I left the restaurant feeling inspired and eager to return, knowing that I had discovered a true culinary treasure.
